Vaccinations
Vaccines can play an important role in keeping your pet healthy. This is particularly important during your pet’s infancy with new puppies and kittens. Below we provide a recommendation of a vaccine protocol for a new puppy or kitten adoptions.
Recommended vaccination protocol for puppies:
8 to 10 weeks - Vaccines to prevent Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvo Virus are the core vaccines. Lyme and Bordatella vaccines may also be considered depending on your pet’s risk of exposure.
12 to 14 weeks – Booster of Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvo Virus vaccines; also Lyme vaccine if appropriate
16 to 18 weeks – Rabies vaccine and booster of Parvo Virus vaccine.
These vaccines are boosted again at 15 to 16 months of age. The frequency of vaccination after this age will depend on the needs of the individual animal.
Recommended vaccination protocol for kittens:
8 to 10 weeks - Vaccines to prevent Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calici Virus and Panleukopenia virus are the core vaccines. Leukemia Virus vaccine should be done for all outdoor cats.
12 to 14 weeks – Booster of all vaccines given at 8 to 10 weeks. Rabies Vaccine should be done for all outdoor cats at this time.
These vaccines are boosted again at 15 to 16 months of age. The frequency of vaccination after this age will depend on the needs of the individual animal.
